GEMOLOGY CENTRE TO OPEN NEXT MONTH

The Second Republic continues its  thrust to promote value addition and beneficiation with a gemology centre being constructed at Fern valley in Mutare expected to be complete by next month.

The centre is expected to play a role in cutting and polishing diamonds, to locally add value to the local mineral.

Addressing journalists, Provincial Public Works Director Engineer Tendai Chiwanza  said phase one of the gemology centre project is almost complete after the injection of ZWL67 million.

Value addition and beneficiation of precious stones has been cited as the solution to the economic challenges facing mineral rich developing countries such as Zimbabwe, with construction of the gemology centre expected to feed into the diamond cutting and polishing value chain.
