Corporate Social Responsibility in Zimbabwe

Corporate Social Responsibility in Zimbabwe impacts many lives. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is something all communities worldwide need. Over the years, this practice has been a part of large companies like CBZ, Irvine’s and Zimplats in Zimbabwe. Communities benefit from these companies in various forms.

Additionally, Zimbabweans benefit from such acts making it a win win situation. The corporates win and so does the community around them. CSR in Zimbabwe helps a lot of communities by meeting their needs. Companies can make donations and provide services needed by communities.

What is CSR?

Firstly, corporate social responsibility is a company-driven plan that seeks to fully utilise its positive impact on society and the environment. It can include a number of societal, economic, and environmental concerns. Also, its initiatives are in different forms across a number of different industries. This positive impact benefits locals in their day to day lives. It can range from drilling a borehole to building a hospital.

Secondly, another way to define it is as a self-regulating business model. This helps it to be socially accountable to itself, its stakeholders, and the public. The company creates its own rules with the help of inhouse experts. Its impact is regulated by its goals, vision and belief system. Moreover, by practicing corporate social responsibility, companies can be conscious of the kind of impact they have on all aspects of society.

Finally, corporate social responsibility enables companies to be sustainable in their operations. Their societal, economic and environmental impact in communities is invaluable. A company’s role in helping the people and planet has a number of benefits for it and the community. In addition, contribution can be the use of recyclable materials making their production sustainable.

Corporate Social Responsibility in Zimbabwe

Moreso, Zimbabweans see the impact of CSR. Companies such as Innscor, Irvine’s, CBZ and many others leave their mark when it comes to CSR. The country is going through an economic meltdown. This meltdown has been there for decades now, and companies do what they can through CSR. Additionally, some help underprivileged children go to school and others donate supplies for local hospitals.

Others have provided communities with means of survival. Like Irvine’s, it provides sustainable ways for people to do chicken farming. Also, CBZ aims to improve human welfare as part of its CSR strategy. These two are just examples of the work local companies are doing. In addition, upcoming companies are taking part in this drive as a way to leave the mark.

However, Zimbabwe needs more intervention to help communities overcome their challenges. Corporate Social Responsibility is trying to fill in this gap. This is a call to all local companies to invest time and resources in their CSR strategy. CSR is something all communities worldwide need to improve lives and Zimbabwe needs to fully hop aboard this train.
