ZimTrade’s efforts towards supporting horticulture farmers for export

The national trade development and promotion organisation of Zimbabwe, ZimTrade, which was formed in 1991, has been a pillar for Zimbabwe’s export growth over the years. 

Like many similar organisations all over the world, ZimTrade has been assisting farmers who are ready to enter the international market to sell their produce. 

According to Allan Majuru, the ZimTrade chief executive officer, under its 2020 – 2023 strategy, ZimTrade is developing players in the horticulture sector, among many other sectors, to be export ready and is providing them with up-to-date market intelligence information. 

Talking to Alphavisionzim, this week, ZimTrade market analyst, Mr Archford Mabuka said “ZimTrade is there to assist the farmers who are ready to engage in the international market by providing information on export development, market intelligence, export promotion and advocacy”. By providing these services, ZimTrade is ready to help horticulture farmers get the export market exposure that will help them succeed at an international scale.

Mr Mabuka further stated that there is need for farmers to understand the aggressive nature of export trading. As a highly competitive market, it is advised that farmers should thrive locally first before competing with other international farmers. After succeeding locally and having the necessary capacity, ZimTrade will aide in advertising products ready for export during trade exhibitions and guide the farmers in attaining success.

Horticulture farmers who are ready to enter the international market are being invited to work with ZimTrade. This will allow them to get expert guidance as they plan their operations.
